Domaine Guigal was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis, a small ancient village, and cradle of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. It is home to a unique vineyard, where vines and wine have been celebrated for 2400 years. In 1961, although very young, Marcel Guigal took over the management of the House alongside his father. His son, Philippe is now the general manager and oenologist of the house. He represents the third generation. The estate now consists of 75 hectares of vines.
The harvest is manual with sorting of the grapes, then regular punching down and control of the fermentation temperatures. The latter is carried out in closed stainless steel vats for almost 3 weeks. This wine is aged for 36 months in oak barrels, 50% of which is new.
The color is ruby red, dark and deep. On the nose, we discover aromas of spicy red berries. The wine also reveals delicate woody aromas and round, melted tannins. The palate is full and structured with notes of raspberry, blackberry and vanilla.
