Overview
Frédéric Magnien’s Gevrey-Chambertin Old Vines is born from vines averaging over 100 years old, planted in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. The site’s limestone-rich soils and eastern exposure impart minerality and freshness to the grapes, while the old root systems ensure concentrated flavors and depth.
Tasting Notes
Aroma
Enticing notes of wild strawberry, red cherry, forest floor, and subtle hints of spices and underbrush.
Palate
Silky texture with ripe red fruit flavors, balanced acidity, fine-grained tannins, and a persistent, mineral-driven finish.
Winemaking
Hand-harvested grapes undergo 15–18 days of fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by aging for 12–14 months in 30% new French oak barrels to preserve the wine’s pure fruit character and integrate gentle oak nuances.
Food Pairing
Perfect with roasted game, duck breast, mushroom risotto, and a selection of aged hard cheeses.
Cellaring Potential
This wine gains complexity over 8–12 years in a cool, dark cellar. Optimal serving temperature: 16–18°C (61–64°F).
