Overview
From the storied Côte de Nuits, Frédéric Magnien’s Nuits-Saint-Georges Old Vines comes from century-old Pinot Noir vines that yield intensely concentrated fruit. The estate’s meticulous vineyard work and low yields ensure a wine of great purity and depth.
Tasting Notes
Appearance
Deep ruby with garnet edges.
Aromas and Palate
Enticing aromas of wild red berries, Morello cherry, and subtle forest floor give way to flavors of plum, spice, and a hint of tobacco. The mid-palate is silky and round, supported by fine, integrated tannins and lively acidity.
Winemaking
Hand-harvested fruit is sorted, destemmed, and fermented using native yeasts in stainless steel vats. The wine is then aged for 12–14 months in 30% new French oak barrels, allowing for gentle oak integration without overpowering the delicate Pinot Noir character.
Food Pairing
Pairs beautifully with roast duck, mushroom risotto, grilled lamb chops, and soft cheeses like Brie or Camembert. Its balance and finesse also make it a delightful match for vegetarian dishes featuring root vegetables and red sauces.
Serving & Cellaring
Serve at 16–18 °C (60–64 °F). Best enjoyed now through 2032, though careful cellaring can extend its elegance for up to 10 years.
