Wines and vineyards of Burgundy
Burgundy wines are the best known and most widespread specialty of our region.
The vineyard covers 280 km in length and covers three of the four departments: Yonne, Côte d'Or and Saône et Loire. Note that Beaujolais, counted as Burgundy wine, is in fact made from grape varieties located in the Rhône department.
The Burgundy vineyard has around a hundred AOCs, the “appellations d’origine contrôlée” (official quality certification) including more than 30 grands crus.
The wine from this vineyard is mainly white wine (61%). There is also a third of red wine (31%) and finally crémant (8%). Rosé production is marginal (less than 1% of all Burgundy wine)
