Overview

The 2023 Ladoix la Micaude 1er Cru « Capitain-Gagnerot » hails from one of Ladoix’s most prized parcels above the village of Aloxe-Corton. This small-yielding Premier Cru is renowned for producing structured yet elegant Pinot Noir that reflects the stony limestone soils and cool Burgundy climate.

Terroir & Winemaking

The vines are planted on east-facing slopes of the Micaude lieu-dit, where shallow, well-drained clay-limestone soils impart a distinct mineral edge. Hand-harvested grapes undergo 100% destemming and a long, gentle maceration in open-top vats. Native yeasts drive fermentation, followed by aging for 12–14 months in 30% new French oak barriques.

Tasting Notes

On the nose, expect bright red berries—cherry, red currant—woven with hints of wild strawberry, dried herbs and a whisper of smoky underbrush. The palate is silky yet firm, with fine-grained tannins, lively acidity and a persistent chalky minerality that carries the refreshing finish.

Food Pairings

This Premier Cru shines alongside classic Burgundy dishes: coq au vin, beef bourguignon, roasted duck breast or a plate of ripe Comté cheese. It also complements mushroom risottos and game birds.

Aging Potential

Beautifully balanced today, the 2023 Capitain-Gagnerot will evolve gracefully over 8–12 years. Expect its fruit to take on tertiary nuances of leather, forest floor and spice as the tannins soften.
