Tasting Notes
Appearance
The wine pours a bright ruby red hue with garnet reflections, showcasing its youthful vigor and clarity.
Aroma and Flavor
On the nose, expect fresh strawberry, cherry blossom, and a touch of forest floor. The palate reveals layers of red currant, cranberry, and hints of clove and underbrush. Silky tannins and lively acidity lead to a long, elegant finish underscored by mineral notes.
Production and Terroir
Crafted by Domaine Capitain Gagnerot in the Côte d'Or, this Pinot Noir benefits from limestone-rich soils and a cool continental climate. Hand-harvested grapes undergo gentle whole-cluster pressing and fermentation in stainless steel followed by aging in French oak barrels (20% new) for 10 months, preserving freshness and adding nuanced oak spice.
Food Pairing
The 2023 Pinot Noir Capitain Gagnerot pairs exceptionally well with poultry dishes such as roast chicken or duck confit. It also complements mushroom-based recipes, soft-ripened cheeses like Brie and Camembert, and even grilled salmon or pork tenderloin. Serve at 14–16°C (57–61°F) to fully experience its aromatic profile.
